The first exhibition opening from the Why Jewellery project coincided with thunder and lightening and heavy rain. Fortunately inclement weather didn't prevent people from attending. There was lots of interesting discussion and interaction about the different responses to the question "Why Jewellery?". Some works were installed under the protective cover of acrylic cases and some were on open tables. The works on open tables were able to be handled and this seemed to lead to bigger groups of people exploring and discussing the ideas behind a work, its feel, its movement, the materials... We have been busy today installing the exhibition, there is still more to do... Finishing the work is a Saturday morning task. We will have everything in place for the opening. The 22nd May will see us test our abilities to collaborate as we work to install the works. It will be exciting to see how the works relate to each other... We will post photos of the install as it comes together.
In Hong Kong Cicy and her students are busy getting the gallery ready for the exhibition installation. In Queensland the jewellery is being packed ready to deliver. The first showing of this exhibition which once felt like something in the distant future is going to open this Saturday. If you are in Hong Kong it would be fantastic to see you at the exhibition. The official opening function is on Saturday 23 May 4-6pm.
